Tauscher Out

Packer's offensive tackle Mark Tauscher tore his ACL during the Packers 21-24 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. He will now be placed on season-ending injured reserve list. This loss comes as a huge blow to the Packers both on the field on off. He has played in all 16 games for 4 of the past 5 seasons and has had a crucial leadership role in the locker room.
Tauscher is currently in the final year of his contract, his future with the Packers has not been discussed yet by head coach McCarthy. Third-year pro Tony Moll stepped in for Tauscher during Sunday's game. He will likely be the right tackle for the rest of the season. He previously filled in for Tauscher in 2006 when he was out for five games with an injury.

Barnett Out Rest of the Year

Packer's Linebacker Nick Barnett will be out for the rest of the season. Barnett suffered a torn knee ligament (ACL) during Sunday's 28-27 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. Desmond Bishop acted as Barnett's replacement during the rest of Sundays game but the Packers will likely find a different replacement for the remainder of the season such as moving A.J Hawk or Brandon Chillar to the middle position. Prior to this injury the Packer's run defense was already struggling so this is a huge blow.

Packers 2-0

2 games into the 2008-2009 NFL season the Packers are 2-0 following wins against the Vikings on Monday and the win today agains the Lions (48-25 final). Rodgers had 3 TD passes and the defense scored off a couple of interceptions. The Lions did have a brief 25-24l lead but weren't able to hang on. So far so good for the Packers and Rodgers.

Brett's a Jet

All the drama surrounding what would become of Brett Favre is now finally over. It was recently announced that Favre will be wearing the green and white for the Jets instead of the Green and Gold for the Packers. It is unfortunate that things had to end the way they did. It will be hard to watch Favre play for a different team, and we hope Rodgers can do his job for the Packers. The Packers have also postponed the retiring of Favre's jersey that was suppose to take place during their opener against the Vikings. That day will come once Favre actually retires.

Brewers Obtain Durham from Giants

The Brewers have obtained switch-hitting 2nd baseman Ray Durham from the San Francisco Giants. The Giants got Class A outfielder Darren Ford and Triple A left-hander Steve Hammond. Rickie Weeks will continue to be the starting 2nd baseman, Ned Yost plans to play Durham a couple times a week and see how it goes.
"We are trying to get as many good players as we can," said Milwaukee General Manager Doug Melvin, "We're trying to win this thing."
Durham stated that it was a "weird feeling" watching the finally of the Brewers 3 game series on Sunday and then packing up to fly with the Brewers to St. Loise where he will be wearing the #5 uniform tonight.
Durham will be valuable for his nearly equal stats. As a left-handed hitter against right-handed pitchers he has a .279 average with .354 on-base percentage. And vice versa he has a .277 average with a .344 on-base percentage.

More Favre Headlines!

Over the weekend the Packers reinstated Favre following much drama after his decision to come out of retirement. The Packers didn't have much choice. They could either release him, trade him, or reinstate him. There was a huge fan gather at Lambeau over the weekend asking the Packers to let Favre come back. Personally I think this whole thing is very messy and there are many rumors still floating around. The Packers say Favre said he wanted to come back months ago. they were prepared to let him back, when he changed his mine. I also hear that Favre was forced to retire. It is hard to say what happened and even harder to predict what the final outcome will be. Favre was reinstated (still needs to ask the NFL to come back from retired status), but he will have to compete for the role of starting QB with the Pack...

Favre Comeback???

It is hard not to hear about this story. Turn on ESPN and it's there; turn on the local news, and yup, it's there too! Right now there are so many rumors I don't know if it pays to think too much about it until there is something solid. Supposedly Favre sent a text message to Ted Thompson that he wants to come back but Thompson is on vacation and won't answer right now. Local reports claim that is not something Thompson would do. There is a lot of talk about what will happen if the Packers don't take him back, could he be wearing a Vikings jersey come fall?
There is also a lot of discussion about the options for the Packers. You have to think that the only reason they wouldn't take him back is if he won't give them the best shot to go to the super bowl. And if you don't think he will come back and be really good you wouldn't be worried if he went to another team. I guess we will have to wait and see what pans out on this one. It is definitely the news story right now!

Braun and Sheets to Play in All-Star Game

Ryan Braun and Ben Sheets have been selected to start in the 2008 All-Star Game, the last to be played at Yankee Stadium on July 15th. Braun is the first Brewer's outfielder to start in the All-Star game since 1999! Please vote for Corey Hart to join them.
Braun has also joined the home run derby next week at Yankee Stadium. Braun currently leads the Brewers with 22 home runs.

Brewers Sign CC Sabathia

Yesterday at 11am the Brewers announced that they traded 4 prospects (most notable is Matt LaPorta) for Cleveland pitcher (and AL Cy Young Award Winner) CC Sabathia to make a run for the play offs. Sabathia made his first start with the Brewers last night in game 2 of their series against the Colorado Rockies. In this opening game the Brewers beat the Rockies 7 to 3 with a 3 run home run by Ryan Braun!
It has been 26 years since the Brewers were able to celebrate a playoff berth. Hopefully Sheets and Sabathia prove to be the duo the Brewers need pitching for them to make it possible in '08.

Badgers Make Sweet Sixteen

The Wisconsin Badgers stomped on Kansas State (72-55) to make the Sweet Sixteen.  I must admit that I didnt have them winning that game, someone told me that in a bracket that can be a double negative.  If you pick them and they lose, you get a double wammy.  If you don't pick them and they win, you are happy.  I am very happy, I was fortunate enough to have the time to watch the end of that game!  They got people talking and might be earning some respect for the Big Ten. Bo Ryan was even on the Mike Tirico show today.

Sad Day!

I know it has been a while since I blogged, but something so huge happened yesterday I can't not talk about it.  #4 Brett Favre retired.  Now I am not very old, and he has been the Packer's QB for 16 years.  He is the only QB I know, because I was 9 when he came to the Packers.  Watching Packer games just won't be the same any longer.  He brought so much to the game and to the Packers.
I also don't know what will happen to the Packers.  They are a really good, young team.  But now the most important role on the team is a question.  Aaron Rodgers has some pretty big shoes to fill.
Favre owned so many NFL records, least of which was is consecutive starts record:237!(257 including playoff games)

Go Pack Go!!! 2008 Playoffs

In the Divisional playoffs the Packers hosted the Seahawks.
The game started out messy and Scary for the Packers. Running Back Ryan Grant had 2 fumbles in the first 2 minutes and the packers were down 14-0. Things didn't look good. But as the snow picked up so did the packers. They ended up winning the game 42-20!!!! Grant ran for 200+ yards.
Now all we need is for the Giants to beat the Cowboys so we don't have to play the Conference championship down in Texas where we Favre has an 0-9 record.

All in all it was a blissfully snowing day up in Green Bay on January 12, 2008!
